RESEARCH COLLABORATION

The University of Washington-Senegal Research Collaboration was established in 1989 and has been consistently funded by the National Institutes of Health for more than 30 years. Our highly productive partnership, clinical and scientific expertise, and state of the art laboratory infrastructure contribute to ongoing discovery and advancement in clinical research. 

• Much of our work is focused on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of HIV, including HIV-1, HIV-2, and opportunistic infections. 
  
• We conduct translational, clinical, mixed methods, and implementation research on infectious diseases, including HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, HPV, malaria, neglected tropical diseases, viral zoonoses and emerging infections.
  
• We study the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of malignancies, including cervical cancer. 
  
• We are working to develop and implement interventions to address food insecurity among people living with HIV.  
• We provide research and training opportunities for students, physicians, and scientists from Senegal and the University of Washington.
